  • Mission Statement

Jewish Prison Chaplaincy Victoria strive to bring light in the darkness, whether it is addressing challenges of observing Judaism behind bars, the challenge of having a family member incarcerated, or the challenges that returning to society can bring. Jewish Prison Chaplaincy Victoria Mission is to help families who have Jewish family members in prison, help Jewish Prisoners to observe and grow while in prison, and help them as they return to society, and work to raise awareness of the issues of Jewish prisoners.

Jewish Prison Chaplaincy Victoria works with prison Chaplains to help them address their Jewish prisoner needs Jewish Prison Chaplaincy Victoria works with organizations in the communities where we serve prisoners, returnees and their families to address social needs, advocacy, and awareness of the issues of Jewish prisoners and their families. All of these activities work to help strengthen Jewish connection and help to build community and support for this at risk population

Families Behind Bars

When somebody from our community goes to jail or prison, their innocent family members also end up doing the time. They are usually devastated, often financially ruined and commonly stigmatized, and faced with the challenge of how to stay in contact and help their family members behind bars. Normalizing their lives is a top priority for our chaplaincy organization.

Jewish Prison Chaplaincy Victoria is widely recognized for its faith-based programs with incarcerated Jews, its reentry mentoring of releases and its initiatives to protect the Jewish community, but the confidential work that we do with prisoners’ families is not so well known. However, we can assure you that we are very much fulfilling the Torah principle of all Jews being responsible for one another.
